12 Years on LinkedIn.
20 Browser Tabs.
Permanently Locked Out.

When I joined a new employer as Lead Product Manager, I manually opened 15–20 coworker profiles in browser tabs using Cmd+Click to learn my new team.

LinkedIn first promised me my account would be automatically unrestricted. But 32 minutes after I honestly explained what happened, they permanently banned my account for life.

Lead Product Manager • 7+ Years Work Experience • 12+ Years on LinkedIn

As a Lead Product Manager, understanding cross-functional teams, engineering partners, and organizational structure is the first thing you do when joining a new company. On July 21, 2026, I opened LinkedIn on my laptop, went to my new employer's company page, filtered to the People section, and used Cmd+Click to open approximately 15–20 profiles in separate tabs so I could cycle through them, read their backgrounds, and get to know my colleagues.

I used zero bots, zero scripts, zero browser extensions, and zero scraping tools. Everything was manual browsing through the standard LinkedIn web interface.

When LinkedIn flagged this activity, I didn't hide anything. I wrote back explaining exactly what happened. What followed was a Kafkaesque journey through automated support macros, three government ID verification demands, a leaked internal cheat-sheet, and an official ruling from LinkedIn's India Grievance Officer stating that once declared ineligible, you are permanently barred for life from ever holding a LinkedIn account again.

Exhibit A • Documented Inconsistency

The 32-Minute Flip: From "Automatic Reinstatement" to "Lifetime Ban"

Case # 260721-022195 July 21, 2026
STEP 1 • 15:01 CST Temporary

LinkedIn Safety Operations

"We noticed that an unusually high number of member profiles were being viewed... so we temporarily suspended it... At the end of the temporary suspension, your account will be automatically unrestricted."

LinkedIn officially diagnosed the issue as precautionary, promising automatic un-restriction.

Avinash Clarifies Honestly

"I totally remember that I went to the company page of my company (I recently joined) and I was browsing through profiles of various people... doing manually myself by going to People section and opening profiles in a new tab. This was just a normal checking to know people across my company. No software or bots..."

Zero deception. Avinash explained the routine PM onboarding practice of viewing coworkers.
25 Minutes Later
STEP 3 • 15:33 CST Permanent Ban

Support Flips the Ruling

"However, due to the number and/or gravity of these repeated violations, your account has now been permanently restricted."

In 25 minutes, honesty was rewarded with an irreversible lifetime exclusion.

The Leaked Support Macro: "Remove if the member didn't receive any warning..."

Case # 260718-010990 July 23, 2026
FROM: Ramesh S (LinkedIn Trust and Consumer Support Consultant) DATE: 07/23/2026 08:49 CST

Hi Avinash,

Your account was previously restricted for violating the LinkedIn User Agreement and Terms of Service.

⚠️ RAW INTERNAL AGENT INSTRUCTION (LEFT UNEDITED): In order to reinstate your account, we asked you to review and agree to comply with our User Agreement and Professional Community Policies **ONLY if second offense. Remove if the member didn't receive any warning and/or used more than 2 unique blocked PIDs.

However, due to the number and/or gravity of these repeated violations, your account has now been permanently restricted.

Regards,
Ramesh S
LinkedIn Trust and Consumer Support Consultant

What This Leak Exposes

  • Zero Individual Review: Decisions are executed by copying and pasting canned decision scripts, not evaluating factual human appeals.
  • Ticket-Closing Rush: The support consultant was in such a hurry to close tickets that they didn't even read their own text before hitting send.
  • Internal Metric Jargon ("Blocked PIDs"): Complex internal algorithms flag users without any transparency or opportunity for correction.
Public Accountability

Five Questions LinkedIn Refused to Answer

Throughout two months of appeals, escalations to the India Grievance Officer, and statutory filings, LinkedIn never answered these basic questions.

01

Which rule prohibits manual browser tabs for coworkers?

When a Lead Product Manager joins a new company and opens 15–20 colleagues in browser tabs to understand his team, what specific sentence of LinkedIn terms did this violate? Why did support answer by telling the member to "hire legal counsel to interpret our terms"?

02

Why did a temporary suspension become a lifetime ban in 32 minutes?

At 15:01 CST on July 21, LinkedIn officially stated the account would be "automatically unrestricted." At 15:33 CST—immediately after Avinash honestly explained manual tab opening—it was flipped to a lifetime permanent ban. What caused that flip?

03

Why demand 3 government ID verifications if review is pre-closed?

Avinash submitted his official passport and driver's license via Persona challenge three separate times. Why require exhaustive identity verification if support simply delivers an automated template rejection hours later?

Status: Unanswered by LinkedIn Closed on Paper
04

Why are decisions governed by copy-pasted internal macros?

In Case # 260718-010990, support consultant Ramesh S accidentally sent raw internal macros ("**ONLY if second offense. Remove if..."). Is any human genuinely reading appeals, or are members processed by robotic script-closers?

05

Why is there no lawful path to start afresh under real identity?

When Avinash offered to permanently close the restricted account and create a brand-new account under his real identity with LinkedIn's permission, the Grievance Officer confirmed that LinkedIn enforces a permanent, lifetime blacklist against future accounts. How is lifetime professional platform exclusion proportionate to opening browser tabs?

What I Am Asking For

I am not asking anyone to harass LinkedIn employees or attack the platform.

I am asking for this documented case to reach someone at LinkedIn with the authority to look past automated support macros, review the facts on their merits, and voluntarily reconsider the permanent restriction on my 12+ year account.
